February 2nd normally brings two things to mind: whether we’ll have another six weeks of winter, and that it’s time to revisit the classic Bill Murray comedyGroundhog Day. But when you take in your annual viewing of the film, do you stop to think how many times Murray’s character Phil Connors relives that same day?
Director and co-writer Harold Ramis estimated ten years on the film’s DVD commentary, but WhatCulture’s Simon Gallagher did some intense number crunching. After breaking down the film piece by piece, his estimate is that Connors relives his Groundhog Day for 33 years and 350 days.
For the full breakdown, head over to WhatCulture. In the meantime, when you spend this evening watching Groundhog Day, keep in mind that Murray’s cantankerous weatherman is waking up to “I Got You Babe” after 12,395 slumbers. That’s a lot of Beautyrest!
