A twin bed, widely popular in size alongside the Queen, is perfect for use on daybeds, bunk beds, and in small bedrooms, fitting solo sleepers, seated loungers, and resting kids. At approximately 74.5 inches long and 38 inches wide, these dimensions fit comfortably within most spaces. What size is a twin mattress? How long? How wide?

A twin mattress measures approximately 38" wide by 74.5" long, which is roughly 2,831 square inches or 19.6 square feet of space.

What’s the difference between Twin and Twin XL?

A twin bed is the same width as a twin XL but approximately 5 inches shorter in length.

What’s the difference in sizes between a full and a twin?

A full size, or double bed, is approximately 53 inches wide and 74.5 inches long. This means that in comparison to a standard sized twin, a full adds 15 inches of width to the space you sleep on but no extra length.

Is a single bed the same as a twin bed?

Yes, twin beds and single beds are different terms that refer to the exact same mattress size.

Is a twin suitable for adults?

While a twin bed may appear too small for an adult's comfort, it can be suitable if space is a constraint. However, we recommend opting for a twin XL for adult use.

Can you use a twin on a bunk bed or a daybed?

The majority of bunk beds and daybeds are built to fit a twin, so the answer is generally yes. However, before buying, make sure you check the specific size requirements for the frame you are considering as some are designed for Twin XL, Full or even Queen mattresses.

Can I put a twin sized mattress directly on the floor?

We don't typically recommend it but yes, if you need to you can put it directly on the floor. Two of the biggest reasons we don't recommend it is it can create issues with allergens, dust, and mold and it makes it more difficult for you to get in and out of bed.

If you need to have your mattress on the floor, we recommend propping it up against a wall to help refresh the airflow once a week or so; this will help keep your mattress dry and clean and decrease the likelihood of allergens, dust and mold from moisture.

What size bed frame do I need if I buy a twin?

You should buy a twin sized bed frame.

What size bedding do I need to buy if I get a twin size bed?

You should buy twin size sheets and if you want a little extra length with a comforter or bedspread you can also look at getting a Twin XL size.

We are transitioning from a crib or toddler bed, what is next?

For children who have outgrown their crib or toddler bed, a twin bed is an ideal next step, especially for smaller-sized rooms.
